After School Art: Surreal Sculpture + Collage / January

DESCRIPTION: The January sessions of After School Art are instructed by Jen Aitchison and will give students to work with a variety of media while being inspired the bright and colorful works of Mexican Surrealist Artists like Frida Kahlo, Maria Tzquierdo, and Rosario Cabrera.

Elementary students will focus on sculpture with cardboard and paper mâché building and painting. With guided instruction, students will develop skills in planning, measuring and hands on building to create their 3-dimensional piece. Students will paint color and texture on their surreal creations will bring their imaginations to life.

Teens and Tweens will explore on collage and illustration. With a focus on visual composition and storytelling, students will use various materials to build a surreal image, encouraging them to think outside the box and problem solve in a new way. Students will add layers of illustration, utilizing colors, lines and shape to complete the project.

After School Art classes are offered every month from September-May for ages 5-16. During each 4-class monthly session, students will explore an arts-related topic, movement, or technique through a variety of 2D media such as watercolor, pastel, graphite, acrylic, or printmaking. Because each monthly session offers a different theme and set of projects, families are welcome to register for one session, a few, or the whole year!

CAC CANCELLATION POLICY: No refunds are permitted for tuitions paid for educational programs. Participants may receive a 50% tuition credit that can be used for a future educational program at CAC. No credits will be given the day class is to start or after the start of the educational program. Should CAC cancel any educational program, all participants will receive a full refund.
